Pin 34 can be used for one of two signals: DC-DiskChange (similar
standard with PC) and RDY-Ready (earlier and more common). RDY informs
the host indicates that it is ready to work (the disk is spun up, the heads are pressed down). In many
PC drives, including 3.5', have a jumper for switching
interpretation of the signal from pin 34.
