Hello Lennon len> Which one sounds better? len> As I understand it, there are no programmatic differences? Are they fully compatible? Which one sounds better is a subjective opinion. Basically, except for YM2203, which is software compatible from bottom to top (but not in terms of pins) with the YM2149, then you can highlight three different coprocessors: AY-3-8910 (Gineral Instrument), AY-3-8910 (Microchip) and YM2149. IMHO, the best sound is the AY-3-8910 (Microchip), but this is a subjective assessment. As for the software differences, the YM2149 DACs are 5-bit, while the AY (all) are 4-bit. DACs are logarithmic, so such a parameter as the dynamic range of ours coprocessors, IMHO, are comparable to 8-bit PC sound.
