On what platform? If not on Windows (except XP), then in the formatting options you can
set the format. In XP you will have to use some utility. On the Spectrum
then you can use iS-DOS or the AllFormat program, there are some others.

I hope you taped the right window? The one without the plastic latch.
If so, then perhaps you have some kind of new disk drive in which you saved on
DD/HD sensor. In this case, it is better to look for another drive.

It’s been like this all my life (how many 3.5" drives have I seen, they were all mechanical
sensor), I sealed the hole with a piece of eraser. I used 3.5"
disk drive with both scorpion and "search".
