Hello, All! Preamble: I have a 4.5V 0.6A power supply designed for a ~120V 60Hz network. The wiring to the trans burned out, the diode (600-volt!) broke through. What did I do wrong? I have a similar power supply, but at 9V... Valera, is this some kind of joke? :) If it's not a joke, then: using a diode you created a constant component of the input voltage and applied it to the primary winding; in other words, turned on the transformer into the DC network the voltage is, however, about 156 volts :) . A diode rated for 3A burned out - according to the current (assuming 10A). We calculate the power applied to the transformer winding: about 1.5 kW. The winding also burned out.
