DEAR READERS! You are holding the first issue of the new magazine ‘Baitik’. You will find some general information about this publication in the advertisement on the cover, but here we would like to introduce you to the main sections of ‘Baitik’. Many of them feature in this first issue, whilst others will appear in future issues. We will endeavour to ensure that every issue of “Baitik” is of interest to readers of all ages, with varying levels of computer knowledge—from those just getting to grips with their first computer to more experienced users. We hope the latter will understand us when they see that, in the first two or three issues of the magazine, most of the content is aimed at beginners. So, in the ‘What’s Happened, What’s to Come’ section, you’ll find out about news and interesting developments in the field of computing. Experienced users, whether advanced or novice, may not need our ‘Tips’, but for beginners they will make learning to use a computer a little easier and help avoid some common mistakes. The largest section in the magazine will be “Computers at School and at Home”, featuring descriptions of specific computer models, a variety of software tools for them, and possible ways to upgrade the hardware—in short, everything that might be useful for practical work on a computer. We will endeavour to ensure that the content of the ‘Programming’ section is of interest both to those who have only just started programming independently and to those who wish to improve their skills in this area. The ‘Mathematics and Computers’ section is intended for schoolchildren who feel they have a flair for mathematics. The ‘ABC’ section is aimed at beginners: its content will introduce them to the basics of computing, and how a computer is built and works. Similar in content, but aimed at children of primary school age, and perhaps even pre-school age, is the ‘For the Very Young’ section. We hope that its young readers will always be helped by older friends and family members. The ‘Horizon’ section will help you better navigate the world of modern computing, its trends and future prospects. In the ‘Let’s Play’ section, you will find descriptions of new and popular classic games, ranging from purely entertaining to more serious and educational ones. In the ‘Club & Club’ section, we will be reporting on the activities of computer clubs and centres. The ‘Feedback’ section will be dedicated to answering your letters with questions and suggestions that are of interest to many readers.
